The Sunny Art Fair 2009
Today, we went to the Sunny Art Fair, which is being held at Zara Expo. There are many established galleries showcasing parts of their collection, the National Gallery’s wing and that of Foresight Gallery being my favorite. Other galleries are: Nabad, Dar Al-Anda, Jacaranda, Zara, Gallery 15, Cairo Amman Bank Gallery, and The Gallery.
What’s really impressive about the artfair though is not these galleries, but rather, the showcasing of new blood, new talent, and new voices, which are all so different in soul from the contemporary Jordanian art we learned about in art school. The artworks of these young Jordanian artists is bold and not tethered with the traditions of older art. Some of my favorite artworks by young Jordanian artists included those of Dina Haddadin and Rawan Kakish (below). Check out the thumbs below for images.
Kudos to Sunny FM for organizing such an inspiring event. Entrance is for three JDs, and you can reuse it all throughout the days. The fair will close on December 15th, and I urge anyone with 15 minutes to spare to go check it out. It’s so inspiring :)

Khalto Rula’s art work makes all of the above look like crap.
Also, Omar actually is starting to look like Hisham?

Nice, I really like the woman in the red dress trio, they got a real Arabian Frida Kahlo portrait vibe going on. Funny, when I first saw the portrait by Rawan Kakish, I said to myself, is that Mahmood Al Yousif from Mahmood’s Den?

Its fascinating how emotions are reflected in art…saving a piece of life in a frame is what never ceases to amaze me.

Naser, you should, you won’t regret it. It stays open till 10.
Sami Z, haha, I’m sure she’ll be happy to read that :) I think it’s an entirely different kind of art though. You think Omar looks like Hisham..? Gus looks like Hisham.
Chris, right? That one was my favorite. It’s really such a nice trio! And he does look like Mahmood :) It’s a nice exhbition, too bad you can’t see it :)
ExpatInSaudi, yup, and it’s different than photography. That’s the best part. Emotions are captured in such a subjective way… Art is awesome :)
Fadia, hanks for the link! I wasn’t aware there was a catalogue online.
Lina, ooh, I guess I can never tell them apart. Always great to see you :) It took us 5 months :( Sucks, I felt really bad about that.
