GMail adds Yamli-like functionality
Many months ago we heard about Google Ta3reeb, a transliteration lab from Google that is very similar to Yamli. Today, I noticed that they also added the tool to GMail, where you can have your 3arabizi transliterated instantly into Arabic as you compose your email.
I already got an email from Moose after I told him about this tool, using it:
عزيزتي ربى
تحيه وبعد
لا بد أن أعترف بأن أصدقاؤك في جوجل يعملون على جعل حياة الناس أسهل
وهذا شيء جميل
مع تمنياتي بيوم سعيد
موس
Are you going to use this tool?

Yes Definitely, I love Yamli and Google. And most Computers I use here do not have Arabic as an input language.

In fairness to Google and Yamli I did try out their transliteration products. Unfortunately (I guess actually Fortunately), I could not write 3arabeezi since I got used to typing Arabic in an Arabic layout even though I don’t have an Arabic keyboard. However, I can see where this can be useful. I wonder if Google or somebody would buy Yamli or create it in-house if needed. It doesn’t seem hard to do technically, I guess the value of Yamli would be its market penetration.
Ahh .. i guess i am rambling at this point.
