Lose/Lose

Being not much of a gamer myself, you won’t often find gaming-related entries on this space (unless it’s Mario of course, but that’s an emotional childhood connection.)

Yet when I read about Lose/Lose, a game created by Zach Gage, I was so amused by the idea that I just had to tell you about it.

The game itself is like Space Invaders, but with a surprising twist: Each time you destroy an alien, the game deletes a file from your Mac. Forever. Get touched by an alien, you lose. If your ship is destroyed, the game deletes itself from your hard drive.

Imagine the possibilities.

“By way of exploring what it means to kill in a video-game, Lose/Lose broaches bigger questions,” Gage writes on his site. “[T]he aliens will never actually fire at the player. This calls into
question the player’s mission … Is the player supposed to be an
aggressor? Or merely an observer, traversing through a dangerous land?”

You won’t find me downloading it any time soon. Knowing myself, I will probably keep playing for a while, pushed by the curiosity of which random file will be deleted next :)

I know about 200 people who still play games, you’re the only one who designed the game

Sounds like a right pain in the a*** to me!

But that slightly more curious being inside my head is saying: “go on, create a virtual machine, install the game and give it a go, whats the worst that could happen”. I have learnt never to trust him… ;)

WOW!!! But that’s a very risky game!! Why would i play something and watch my files get deleted :D
Maybe playing it on an old p.c would be fun!!!
You won’t imagine how fascinated i am now!

Sound like the game is meant for the “I like to put safety pins through my cheek” demographic!
