Yay yay, I wanna be a rockstar
Here’s the first local musical piece that I’ve been impressed with for a while. The most impressive part? The brilliant Ammani pop-culture twist.
These lyrics are so relevant I recommend that any tourist/visitor/stranger to West Amman print them out. Armed with nothing but this song, you’ll be able to see some of the landmarks and pop-culture terminology and characters our city has to offer.
Here are the lyrics in English (my own translation):
“SubarStar” by Humam Ammari and Nadim Masri, tunes based on “Rockstar” by Nickelback
I am tired of standing in front “the” Eight
Heck I could have stayed home instead
and I wish I can have one dinner at Zaatar o Zeit.
(Tell me what do you want?)
I want a house in Abdoun or Dabouq
And for God’s sake, new car
and forget about traffic jams, get me a badass chauffeur.
(So how can I help you now?)
I want a savings account at the Housing Bank
And a credit card with no billing address
so that I can invite all the guys to Kan Zaman.
(Awesome, man)
I want a new house in Deir Ighbar
With a big ass pool, that comes with a bar
And oh yeah, a gas station on the Airport Road.
(So how you gonna do it?)
Chorus
I’m willing to become a really big sissy
and buy some wax for my hair.
Because I want to be a big suber star
Going around the bars with this guitar
Have a bodyguard who looks like a lizard
And hang out at Nai with Ayman D3eis
And be on the telephone with Diana Karazon
Have the best video clip on TV
Have an album sponsored by Zain
And have all my concerts in Rass el-Ain
Yeayeah I want to be a a famous star.
I want to sit on my balcony drinking tea
Then go work out at Vy,
let me fix my body
I look like a shitty shoe.
(A shitty shoe indeed)
I want to be on Al-Wakeel’s morning show
And dump my elephant-size girlfriend
I want a new mobile
I am tired of this trash
(It seems like it’s working out for you, homes)
*chorus*
I want to be famous
Have my breakfast at Blue Fig
Ditch my classes for the women
And drink every day like an animal.
Yeayeah I want to be a a famous star
I want an apartment by the beach in Tala Bay
And a party on a boat with the best DJ
And to wake up hung over and head to the buffet
and my Egyptian worker greets me with “welcome sir”

Lol, extremely funny. Thanks for posting it cuz when you get addicted to the song u just need something with the same vibe but different lyrics.
But i think it’s ” I want a house in Abdoud or Dabouq ” not Deir Ighbar

Yeha, its nice but i can hardly call the tune “based on” Nickelback’s song, more like a straight copy of it. I would have liked the song more if the tune was original.

I thought it was ok, I second Bakkouz on the originality
I do think though, a better Jordanian funny song (don’t know how much attention it got) is “Inti Bagara”. It’s hilarious and original:
