Facebook; my daily dose of amusement

Because of all the visual pollution littering the horizons of Amman due to the upcoming municipality elections (expect a post about that soon), I have been spending some time thinking about alternative ways in which political candidates can market themselves to the relatively politically-naive population in ways other than banners and signs hung haphazardly around town.

So far, I have not managed to come up with a satisfactory solution, so I was really amused when I come across several Facebook groups for the candidates of the Parliament, some with the same amount of members that Tiesto’s group managed to garner!

Amusing, but I don’t think that it can be said that the older generation is finally realizing the importance of digital culture. I’m quite sure it wasn’t the actual candidates nor their PR managers that thought of the idea, probably their children or grandchildren, but I think it’s pretty smart.

It amazing that Jordanian Parliamentary candidates are take good use of facebook, although American politicians have been use it for while now. Especially, presidential candidates such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the sad thing about Barack Obama’s page, is that he only joined facebook groups that are related to him.

    Hehehe!

    This Musharbash dude!

I was once introduced to him by my uncle, we shake hands, he told me that he and my dad are good friends (It looks like this is his slogan,I know ur dad, vote for me) . Then he went on with the usual chit chat. (What do you do…etc etc) - for the next 20 min.

Then all of a sudden I’ve asked him : بس ما تعرفنا على حضرتك؟
My uncle jumped in: He is Mr.Ghazi Musharbash (as in really you didn’t know who he is?).
Firas: Ok, nice meeting you, your name sounds familiar? But what exactly you do sir?

You should have seen the look on his face :D

Facebook,Hi5, Space, thank God I have never dealt with those. I’ve heard Aerospace companies are targeting students on Facebook too. I thought facebook is for reuniting old classmates and stuff.

But the question is: Could Facebook get me married this season?

Wow…this is great…to see Arab politicians taking advantage of these social networks online…in the US almost all the presidential candidates have a myspace…a great way to promote themselves to the younger crowd…Barack Obama just happens to be one of my top friends on my myspace page :P
