License you Arab

So what does everyone think of the new license plate design? Personally, although I do think it looks a lot better than the previous ones, I think it looks way too European, especially with the almost complete absence of Arabic characters.

Numeric systems aside; I abhor the fact that the new plates are not uniform; rather than having a standard set of digits on a plate the government decided putting prices on lower numbered plates is profitable in a plate-number-obsessed country. A single digit plate (actually 3, the single digit comes after the first 2 (ex. 10-2)) sells for a 5 digit figure I’ve heard.

I love the new plates though; very readable, at least for those who should wear glasses but don’t.

My problem with them is that these VERY long numbers, it’s like a phone number or something!

I think we should give cars in Jordan IP Addresses
My car is 192.168.0.1 what’s yours?
    LOL

I think they are fine. ya3ni no need to show an identity here..there r always better ways to express our identities, wella Kaif? ;) ba3dain numbers are large and neat, why to put two lines in one plate, arabic and english. and oh, some people will get to learn english numbers :P

Abu Dhabi changed their licence plates towards the end of last year and have also completely done away with Indian numerals. I love the new design (it’s got COLOR and the font they used is gorgeous) but I hate that there no Indian numerals. I know that “Western” numerals are actually Arabic, but I feel that the Indian numerals are so inextricably linked to the Arabic language that letting go of them is sort of like crossing out a huge chunk of our culture. The same goes for newspapers and such that have also switched to Arabic numerals. They just look…wrong.

love them. i can’t wait till indian numerals are phased out from most of our daily lives. (just leave them in things like the Qur’an obviously).
have you ever seen an accountant, working off a calculator, mentally switching from arabic to indian when writing the numbers down on paper? its the most retarded thing ever. plus our zero is a dot! and so our decimal point is a comma! its unnecessarily confusing. that’s why they will never mass produce an indian numeral calculator.

The new license plates are good. They are clear and easy to read.
But, personally, I was expecting something better. Why not to include letters with the numbers (like Saudi plates)? It would be easier to memorize, and will allow for a wider range of possibilities.
Also, it would be great if the numbers meant something; like for example 10 is Amman, 11 is Irbid and so. Or maybe the number indicates the car model’s year or something.
