B12

Is it just me or does everyone in Jordan seem to be suffering from a B12 deficiency these days? Everyone seems to either be taking a course of B12 supplements or knows someone who is. Weird.

There’s absolutely something wrong here in Jordan, It’s either the water or the food! I never had B12 deficiency when I was in Kuwait, but now Im officially taking B12 supplements!

the answer is pretty simple, in the mediteranean region it is a common genetic print that we have a minor prob in absorbing B12 from our food , it is normal and it is nothing. it is just that doctors are finding its substitution in the pills and hey once the news are spread it is moda , havent u noticed that most of the ppl here talk like doctors , n7na bnifham fi kul ishi:)

That’s coz we’re all so tired of Jordan and life in Jordan - PHYSICALLY tired - and we need an explanation for why we are so exhausted and sleep deprived all the time, and instead of blaming it on depression and disillusionment, we grasp the floating straws and go with the B12 business. Sounds safer.

Oh God, how depressed do I sound? Not good.

Speaking from a professional point of view (I am a complementary therapist/nutritionist with specialty in stress management) taking supplements is the latest craze. A lot of people take them without knowing why and only because people they know are taking them. Most supplements are pretty pointless since they’re water soluble so you end up passing most of it out. Eat a good nutritious diet and they’ll be no need for supplements. However if due to stress and events that happen in your life your diet is not sufficient and your not absorbing nutrients well then taking supplements can help as long as you know what you’re taking and don’t overdose! Remeber your body is not a trash can, know what ur putting in it!

There was a Jordanina study conducted both in Amman and Irbid in July 2006 which showed that over HALF the population in these cities do have B12 deficiency, The number of patients involved was small and the results cannot be extrapolated to the entire population in Jordan, but it’s an alarming sign that B12 def. can be an endemic in Jordan.

“Bad” water and food do not cause it, althought vegans get it.
The problem is usually in absorption not intake, so even if you take pills you need to check your blood levels later because they might not have been absorbed.

    FYI

Like Dr. Hareega said the problem with B12 is usually absorption and not intake, if you have B12 defeciency you can take a course of B12 shots to get your liver storage of b12 to its 3 year usual storage after the first coarse of shots you will require a shot every couple of months

exzombie… not really, if people eat a somewhat balanced diet even if it didn;t contain much seafoood they shouldn’t develop b12 deficiency, it’s usually an absoprtion problem.

moey if you’re concerned go check it, el test abu 20 nera

Thanks for talking about this Roba!

This is seriously disturbing! Everyone go and check his B12 in Jordan would most probably find he has a shortage. I wonder if we really all have a problem or there is something wrong in our lab tests! Maybe it is a deficiency in the materials they use to do the testing!

Same wildly spread problmm in Jordan is the “Ameeba”. Everyone seem to suffer from it these days!

guys guys guys, well… did anybody hear that someone he knows died because of lack of B12 or any stupid thing like that? or any illness related to it? i think not, when are jordanian gonna wake up? not only jordanians, the whole world!!!

The stupid things they tell us and we make a big fuss out of it, like madcow, birdflu, and now B12, ok ok there might be some people that have the lack of b12, but don’t you think they just wanna sell you the stupid pills and make the labs get your money, money cycle, am sure they r just bad tasting M&Ms!

Don’t you think like in these days we should talk about much important things? like war in palestine and Iraq? Sudan is next and I don’t know who’s next, and we are having a daily chat all around the country about B12! I don’t wanna be the serious one here, but I think B12 is something related to a US bomber plane or a Pantene commercial.. oh no.. that’s Pantene Pro-V…
